MONASTERO FRATI BIANCHI

The values that inspire us are the rediscovery and promotion of native grape varieties such as Pollera and Barsaglina, the recovery of uncultivated land, and the continuation of the tradition that represents our history - but also our future.

The Monastero dei Frati Bianchi winery was founded in the spring of 2004, when Giorgio Tazzara saw the possibility of restructuring his vineyards and planting new ones by recovering the ancient lands that were already possessions of the ancient monastery. Although planted with vines for centuries, they had by then been abandoned and fallen into disrepair.

In 2019, with the entry into the company of the Bernardini family, work to expand the vineyards began: after "Monte dei Bianchi", the "La Rocca" vineyard was born.

THE TERROIR

The soil represents a unique and inimitable natural heritage.

The morphology of the land makes tillage practices more difficult and the maintenance of the vineyards more laborious. Nevertheless it repays all these efforts by gifting us with grapes of the highest quality, which give rise to elegant, structured, complex wines, with great potential for aging and that are above all a vivid representation of the territory itself.

THE VINES

The secret to the quality of our vineyards is the link between soil, climate and man.

Preserving native vines and creating connections with other varietals allows our wines to express the personality of the territory.
Since the new business was founded, the enologist Francesco Petacco has been a crucial contributor.
Expressing all the authenticity, local charm and rich tradition of our territory is Francesco’s main objective in his work; since the start, he has followed the company with skill, diligence and great passion.

Syrah is a wine of great structure, elegance and prestige, both in its olfactory and gustatory sensations, where it is characterized by the softness of the tannic structure and its sweet notes, with a well-relaxed finish.

ALL ABOUT SYRAH

From our lands, Merlot gives us a wine of great structure, elegance and power, with intense and persistent aromas where, in addition to the characteristics of the varietal, we find the territory above all. In the mouth, it releases a thick and deep texture.

ALL ABOUT MERLOT

Historical notes on viticulture indicate the presence of Pollera in the Lunigiana area as early as 1800. Pollera is characterized by elegant aromas that range from floral memories, to undergrowth fruit, to spicy notes.

ALL ABOUT POLLERA

Barsaglina is a native vine of our province, where its presence has been found since the earliest ampelographic research. The resulting wine has a purplish ruby color with complex fruity and spicy aromas. The tannic texture and good acidity are intense on the palate.

TRADITION AND SUSTAINABILITY

The Azienda Agricola Monastero dei Frati Bianchi continues the tradition of managing the vineyards and the cellar in the most natural way possible.

Our vinery takes its steps towards sustainability based on the necessary interventions and careful guidance of the enologist Francesco Petacco.

Maintaining and developing viticulture on our hills of Lunigiana is a source of pride for us: in this way, we preserve traditions by improving the territory.
